The real bill is about what to do with the Social Security payments that illegals with false SSN pay into the system, and the real bill basically guarantees that illegals can't get their hands on the money they've paid into the system. The real bill actually uses the illegal's social security payments to support social security for American Citizens.





Even with no changes, Social Security is fine to 2042. If they raise the cap on social security taxes (currently you pay no social security taxes on income above 80,000) we'll be fine until 2060. If they change the growth rate of benefits, or a tiny increase in the tax rate, social security is fine forever.
Reply:To Charles above: good answer except no one "pays into" Social Security. The FICA tax is a regressive income tax. Social Security "benefits" are paid from the current federal tax revenue (and borrowed money). The so-called "Social Security trust fund" is nothing but government IOUs.
Reply:This is only partially true. On May 25,2006, the U.S. Senate, by a 62-36 bipartisan vote, passed the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2006. The vote was not about passing the bill or not. What was being voted on was a motion to table a motion to deny former illegals credit for the Social Security payments they made while in the U.S. illegally. Also, Social Security is a seperate program from SSI. People pay into the Social Security fund under the Federal Insurance Contributions Act. It's usually listed as FICA on your paycheck. Citizenship is not required to pay into the fund or to draw from it; it is only required to have a legal work permit to pay into the fund.





SSI is Supplemental Security Income. It is drawn from the general fund. Since welfare reform (Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act) was passed in 1996, it is required that SSI (not Social Security) recipients be U.S. citizens.
Reply:Giving SSI to current illegals is included in the Senate Immigration Bill, and Bush has signed an agreement with Mexico that Congress would have to approve. On the latter, a senior organization has filed suit to require details because the Bush administration refused to turn over the agreement when asked by Freedom of Information Act request. It is NOT an urban legend. Considering how much more illegals have taken out in education funds, health care, etc than they have paid in taxes INCLUDING SSI, it is insult on injury to suggest giving them the SSI benefits that will be limited or denied to many of us who paid in for these benefits all our lives.

Reply:Google "Ensign Amendment" The amendment was rejected. Under current law, illegals can use prior work history to gain access to SS benefits once they gain legal status. Ensign's amendment was to STOP this. Why should they be rewarded for what they paid while working illegally, using fraudulent documents? Several illegals "rent" SS#s from legals, they are paying the SS tax for the legal, while the legal does nothing. Legals can be in Mexico and drawing unemployment during the off season here. Mexican legals here, still have to go to Mexico periodically to retain their citizenship there. While they are home visiting, their SS# is still working for them.


The SS system IS in trouble. What I am paying now, is actually paying my mom's SS retirement. Who will be paying mine?


You need to contact your Senate representative and let them know how you want them to vote. That IS how it's supposed to work isn't it?
