The McCann case's media coverage affected by the 'Diana' effect .....?

"There is a parallel with Diana -- editors know there is something readers do not want them to do, and that's to get too close to the McCanns in the critical sense, and to this day the public does not have much idea of what happened" the night Madeleine disappeared, said Brian Cathcart, a journalism professor at Kingston University in London. "

And even 'Social commentators' get in on the act of rescuing the McCanns

"Social commentators have noted that, in general, children are not as welcome in restaurants in Britain as they are in other European countries, making it more acceptable among Britons to leave their children at home"

Thats news to me, Ive never noticed that children are unwelcome at restaurants. But maybe if you say it in print, then it becomes so.

The McCann case's media coverage affected by the 'Diana' effect .....?
That is definately true about the apartments where the Mccanns were staying,a few people who have stayed there have stated on here(answers) that children are not welcome in the restaurants at night.

They are in fact actively discouraged by management not to take the children at night, one lady wouldn't comply she said and took her baby with her, only to have people tutting and would not sit near her and the child.

I have seen a few posts about it,but if that were the case, why on earth would you stay there?

Maybe with it being so expensive, the people who do, are perhaps used to having nannies.
Reply:which begs the question why weren'tthe little kiddies brought to the restaurant that night as well seeing as they re apparently more welcomed in overseas restaurants
Reply:the effect aint working on me

the more they tell me how wonderful and dignified they are , the more angry i get as i see two hard faced people scam people and lie

children are more than welcome in resteraunts in portugal , its britain that has more of a problem with children

the point really is they should never of been left alone .

if our media can not accept that then they are unfit and an embarassment , same as the mcscammies
Reply:I don't think it's that children are less welcome in British restaurants but that parents get scorned upon in this country for taking their children out past what is deemed to be "their bed time".

It's slightly different in a holiday resort, it's more acceptable to be out as a family. Even in this country.

To be honest, I think people in this country will dine more often with their children now the smoking ban is in force as it opens up lots of other possibilies of where you can eat. We would now consider eating with our son early on a Saturday evening in a nice pub. We would never have done that before.

But that's all irrelevant anyway. The McCanns were not the type of family to eat together so I doubt it would make any difference what country they were in. There is something very telling about a couple who regularly have to holiday with lots of other families. Personally, I couldnt think of anything worse.
Reply:A few answers are saying children are not allowed at the Tapas, well then why didn't the parents not stay in either or get a babysitter. It would have been a lot safer. How can a night on the p1ss become more imported then children. Children are suppose to be the number 1 and looked after at all times. Nothing should ever come between a parent and a child. I still think they know more then they are letting on.
Reply:It is a bunch of hogwash. Children not welcome at restaurants? Of course they are...it means MORE money spent on additional meals.

Anyways, when you are a parent and you know that your children are going to act up at a restaurant then you stay home and order out!

It cracks me up to what extent people in the media and in general are going to in order to defend the McCanns. There is no excuse for what they did. Plain and simple.
Reply:There are loads of restaurants in the uk where children are welcome, are they for real these people? go out any sunday afternoon you will see hundreds of children out with their parents, i have never heard anything so daft, do these professors know the McCanns? or are they feeling guilty because they do the same? middleclasses again, dumping there children, for someone else to look after, ( or not in the Mcanns case ) then coming out with every excuse in the book, ( the resorts safe, we work long hours, no kate you dont, sorry )
Reply:They should still print the truth and at least criticise them for leaving the kids.
Reply:One of the things I've failed to understand from the beginning, is why the children did not go for the meal with the rest of the family. In countries such as Spain and Portugal, it is the custom to have family meals, and kids of all ages are made to feel very welcome, and usually a big fuss is made over them, unlike in Britain, where kids can be seen as a nuisance. So I think the "Social commentators" have got it wrong somewhere along the line.
Reply:Someone should explain what parallel means, your meaning of parallel is slightly oblique
Reply:You really are clutching at straws with your theories.
Reply:Dosnt Kate McCann look a lot like Diana
