Why is it that the media chooses to focus on the meltdowns and faults of celebrities?

Everyday I log onto the internet and I notice that the focus is on Britney Spears' mounting problems and constant poor decision making. If they insist on prying into the private lives of celebrities, why wait outside of rehab for the press conference of yet another broken celebrity? Why not focus on the celebrities that choose to do good things or at least keep themselves sober on a camera? I think this is negatively impacting our society. It has become social norm to be a recovering drug addict. It is now fashionable to be an alcoholic. And it is now necessary to be known as a party girl. Why are we allowing the young and foolish to shape our culture? Why not praise those who are not out there making youth look bad?

Why is it that the media chooses to focus on the meltdowns and faults of celebrities?
former basketball player aken oshawan was a role model

who got lots of good press. the former houston rocket star

set up schollarships for youth, would not endorse tennis

shoes unless middle classs kids could afford them. be bought

property and put a mosk on it. he refused a interview for

playboy for he felt it was not a family magazine. when other

athletes had great years, they demanded new contracts with

more money. not him, he honored his. team owner was so

impressed he tore up the contract himself and gave him one\

with more money. he was a perfect role model who got lots

of good press. years ago, joe dimaigo turned dowm huge

amounts of money to endorse tobacco and alchol for he

wanted to be a good role model.
Reply:We don't wanna hear that crap! OUR lives are boring enough.
Reply:The good stuff is boring. The bad stuff is entertainment!
Reply:i think it is to show that they have their faults too... to make them seem like real people outside of the silver screen... Anyone can act like a good role model in a movie or in front of the camera but i think that it is good for kids to see their faults...
Reply:I think that it makes whomever is cashing in on all the negative things in a person, wants to feel better about themselves. Celebrities no matter what the age, are just as human as we are. Even if they think that they are invincible.
Reply:because people feel better about themselves to know rich people are just as stupid as they are.

Also people who are fans of these people like to know what there getting up to, but as for haters like myself its just funny to hear that brittany spears shaved her head and lashed out at reporters with an umbrella claiming to be the antichrist..
Reply:Because that's what readers want to focus on. That's what sells.

I think it is a sad commentary on our society though.
Reply:Because negative things sell advertising....People love drama!
Reply:Because they just want to be noticed. Nobody would notice the media if the headline read "Paris Hilton gets new outfit", (We all know that's the only thing she does.) nobody would buy it. They're just doing what'll make them money, hope that answers your question!
Reply:Good news is no news sadly. News always chooses to report the negative. We don't often get to hear the good stories as sadly humanity is not as interested in them.
Reply:Well, the media would find it pretty hard to focus on brainpower and common sense because, er, such things are conspicuous by their absence in the celebrity world. Reminds me of the old joke "What is the definition of 144 celebrities? Answer: Gross stupidity.

'Nuff said!
Reply:Brad Paisley and Kimberly Williams. Perfect couple. Few news about them. Why? I don't know. Human nature? Media obession with broken lifes?
