Non-EU immigrants cannot apply for social benefits.....?

like housing unless they are asylum seekers, or have officially become a citizen after paying five years of tax (as working professionals), or ten years of overseas tuition fees (which is around 9000 at the moment) as students. There is no other way to become a citizen in GB other than marrying a British passport holder.

Why does the media put the blame on all 'outsiders' to draw on our resources??

I feel gutted by their intentional fact-twisting to please the public!

Non-EU immigrants cannot apply for social benefits.....?
France is bigger and less crowded than our country, so they have the room to take more immigrants. However, their social security system is not as generous, and is being tightened up as I write!!

Immigrants of good heart are a great asset to any country. I lived in China for a while, and their attitude is one of welcome. I was there for a purpose (teaching English) and also the spouse of a Chinese citizen. The attitude of "obey our laws and be a good citizen, and you are welcome to remain in our country as long as you choose... break the laws of our country and you can leave right away" was so very refreshing. No major hoops to jump through, no test of Chinese, no huge fees for the visas, just a sensible attitude and a welcoming smile. So different here, sad to say.

Lazy, good for nothing loafers who scrounge and demand handouts are unwelcome anywhere. However, I would hazard a guess that there are far more British scroungers than immigrant scroungers in the UK. Despite the high profile cases we see in the papers, I would guess the percentage of benefit fraudsters who are immigrants is far, far lower than the UK ones.

Happy to be corrected if someone can show me reliable statistics on this, but there is always a hoo-ha in the press when a foreigner steps out of line, but not when our own citizens do so. Never believe what you read in the papers!!
Reply:So, tell me when this issue started about five years ago and they were coming to our country in bus loads, where do you think the local councils were going to put them, if they did not give them housing?

They had to give housing, local councils were ordered to take in all these people especially in the North as the south of England was over whelmed by immigrants. Don't you remember watching the BBC news and seeing it in the papers?

EDIT* How you suddenly get tons of asylum seekers?? Remember when certain countries entered the EU, and certain airlines and bus companies were offering 16 pound sterling seats one way to the UK. ($32)

I can understand true asylum seekers needing aid and assistance. But, the system is definitely being abused by people who should not be using it.

*Also in reference to this arguement confusion and problems occur, when people put asylum seekers, false asylum seekers; illegals and legals all in the same boat. When in fact you are talking about seperate groups of people.
Reply:I also feel gutted, not only by the media and the pathetic vote-chasing politicians, but by the constant stream of hatred that is found on Y!A on any question about immigration. To be honest, right now I feel really depressed about everything.

However, this is life, people are the same everywhere, there are good people, as well as the misguided.

Yes you are a citizen. But in fact, even the refused are still citizens of the world, with as much human rights as anyone else.
Reply:yes the press has its own idea's. they do write the things but have the part that is the real facts at the bottom most times knowing that most of the readers don't read the whole article. the one the other day on 52% of jobs go to immigrants is a case in this a real good example. most did not notice are care that there are 660,000 unfilled jobs.so it should have read 2, whatever jobs and 18% unfilled. but that would not look good really much better just to mention the jobs that were filled and leave out the ones that have not been filled. and why were these jobs left unfilled no one able to do them. so there is a skills shortage part of the reason that immigrants are needed.
Reply:My family have lived and died for this country for centuries, so why should i have to listen to people who have just popped on a boat and took up residence and think they are British.

You may be a hard worker and pay your tax. But if you take bread out of my mouth, and a roof from over my head you are no friend of mine.

A piece of paper does not make you British. It is history and heritage with a sense of belonging that makes you British.
Reply:Agree with you and also many think that it is easy for a non e.u member to get a visa to come here.Well i know for a fact that it is a difficult process for many.I cannot even get a visa for my husband to come here and the pathetic excuses that they made at the embassy amazed me.When i asked for help on here regarding immigration issues i had much abuse because i had married a man from another country and i was disgusted by most peoples attitudes about immigration.I did have some nice answers but in general i found people just wanted to slate you for it and nothing else.good on you for stating the facts.
Reply:I agree. I just posted a message on another question. I can NOT claim any benefits, I am a LEGAL immigrant here in Britain.

People always feel defensive towards immigrants. I am here to work and pay tax, not claim benefits. In my country, people feel shame of getting benefits.
Reply:You are quite right....it is between the media and the ignorance of the public that causes the rift between non uk and uk.

EU's have righst to the welfare state....as we do if in their country

Visa nationals as you once were come here with no recourse to public funds and have to build up their support in time

Unfortunately for the whole wide world..media influences all
Reply:Yes, you are correct. Finally someone with some sense.

P.S. My husband is an immigrant and has never been entitled to any form of public funds since the 8 years he has been here.

Don't you just love how the papers love to twist everything!
Reply:You are quite right.

Why don't people just say as I do.

I don't want them here full stop.
