What would it take for social activism (ie the ONE Campaign) to garner massive public support and action?

There are many activist efforts undertaken in the United States, and yet few are able to gain large momentum and inspire and drive change at a grassroots level up. What can be done to inspire people, in their everyday experiences, to mobilize for action (marches, sending money, lobbying Congress, hosting large scale concerts/fundraisers, appearing in major media) in a way that empowers the people involved and creates lasting changes?

What would it take for social activism (ie the ONE Campaign) to garner massive public support and action?
In my opinion, most people who are not involved in their communities are just not interested. They would rather sit and complain than do anything to change things.





I have been working on political campaigns since I was about 6 years old, and now have my 5 year old daughter starting to do the same.





But if people do not have this example set for them early, as I did, it does not seem to ever take hold of them. People need to care about their communities, and think that grass roots activism is worth their time.

Reply:Unification of all third party and similar interest groups in a group effort lobby against corporate interests. Either that or petition in an ammendment under Article II of the Constitution
Reply:Piss people off, it's the only way to get us off our over-fed asses. Too many toys distract us from real life, things like sports, internet, movies, tv etc all make us complacent untill something drastic smacks us in the head...


The Taliban found out how to get us motivated in a bad way. Damn them all to Hell, but they sure got us interested in something important for a minute.
Reply:Jack Kenedy, or a cause big enough that it is worth it. Saw it happen during the Vietnam war. Bunch of freeks in the streets for that one. Wait a minute I was one of them.

Reply:How about a cause that most Americans would support? For instance, a bunch of radicals flying Mexican flags and chanting Marxist slogans just doesn't do it for most of us.





Most "activists" these day take pains to make Americans angry. They put forward "causes" most Americans find distasteful (or worse), so why would it be a surprise that all of these efforts fail?





It is like these morons who pretend like they are going to get approval for abortion in the Catholic Church. Not going to happen, waste of time....and yet on and on they go, exposing the real truth: Almost all of it is "activism" for "activism's" sake.





No calorie food has no calories either.
