Writing a sociology paper on Prostitution. Can someone please help with Social theories?

I need help with 1) methodology and 2)theories.My paper needs to have a sociological theory background to clearly explain why this is a problem and why you think it can be solved in ways raised int he paper. or I can use any combination of methods (interviews, participant observation, ethnography, surveys, media analysis etc.) Im just lost where to start if anyone has any links or good advice it will be greatly appreciated!!

Look at "Sociology of Deviance" and "criminology" for your sources of literature and combine it with "Feminist Sociology".





The most common data collection method for this type of subject is ethnography. It will be difficult to collect quantitative data. However if you would like to use some quantitative consider gathering data from AIDS %26amp; community health clinics and use logarithmic data analysis used with snowball sampling.
Reply:I'm going to save you some time. You cannot "solve" prostitution. I'm sure finding research on why it is a problem should not be a problem on the internet. It should be common sense though...





Note: I broke out laughing at "participant observation"... I think you probably meant something else than what I am thinking...
Reply:In most instances it takes police and courts away from serious physical felonies such as murder, assault, armed robbery.





I think you can correlate it to the Marihuana issue in which keeping that a felony and keeping the police tied up with pot party busts was an drain of police strength and making paper criminals of people.
Reply:I agree that prostitution should be legalized. Theories: More control over the use of contraception's and spread of disease. make them pay taxes(if they use the system why shouldn't they pay into it?), General health care for the prostitutes and their families.


I'm not sure what direction you are trying to go so.......


I'd try to use some hard statistics if you can find some because remember sociology is the science of people and cultures, therefore you should have a scientific basis.
