I'm making a mind map on how education in sociology, HELP?

i have to make a mind map on sociology in general and one of he branches i'm struggling in is education. It also has to be personal, so how the education of sociology effects me. I am seriously lost and i need help. Also, if you could help me in the field of media, politics, culture, religion, social change, and istitutions.

I'm a 17 year old girl if that does any help.

this is due friday btw so help asap would be greatly appreciated.

I'm making a mind map on how education in sociology, HELP?
The personal application of sociological theory to the sociology of education is very subjective. Your experience will be dramatically different than say mine. I am a white male. Sociological theorists love to point out that my demographic (when I'm older at least) will control education (and most every other social institution). Therefore, I think a good point for your mind map would be to illustrate how things you have learned in educational institutions contribute to society as a whole.

Look at why you take history classes, who teaches them, how they are taught, and why they are taught this way. Similarly, why are we taught math if we won't use it (structural functionalism has some good stuff about that).

Feminist theory is always applicable to education where men are more likely to hold administrative jobs and the differentiated instruction methods used for boys and girls can dramatically affect socialization (an easy topic to write on).

If you are part of an educational system, the sociology of that system will dramatically affect you. Education is one of the key agents of socialization. It imbeds a great deal of our norms and mores. We learn how to behave around adults, around our peers, around other sexes, and how to sit, look, listen, kneel, and sometimes pray. These are all critical to the overall health of our country because they contribute valuable skills (if that is the word...) to the job force. Similarly, education as an industry helps employ a lot of people. Question whether structured education is really necessary. Historically, state sanctioned education was VERY limited and generally the female of the household was responsible for educating the young (generally through the bible as a background for most educational endeavors). Contrast that to how formalized education is (with mandates of attendance and actual punishments for parents who fail to get their kids in school).

The fields of media, politics, culture, religion, and other institutions should be very easy to write on. I find it particularly true when using a structural functionalist or (my favorite) conflict perspective. Conflict perspective is always applicable to institutions because you can always say that the rich white man is attempting to keep you down.

FIGHT THE POWER :)
