Why do many people simply accept the GOP / media dictatorship as a non threat?

For centuries, social advances made through the priciples of liberal democracy could be studied and recognized as achievments in progressive civilization. Oxy-morons have now invented conservative democracy as a 30 year PR stunt.

Why do many people simply accept the GOP / media dictatorship as a non threat?
I didn't think the USSR, China, Cuba or North Korea had many major advances.
